Coming from a family of avid board game players and social bridge players, it came as no surprise that as soon as I was introduced to bridge, I fell in love with it. Fortunately, my 12 year old sister learnt at the same time as me so every evening the 4 of us (including my parents) would play bridge for half an hour.
Bridge’s appeal to me came from its logic and mathematics - that being my favourite subject. It is also a great way to meet and socialise with like-minded people.
Currently, I help run my school’s bridge club. As part of the school team, I have managed to win the fiercely competed Surrey School’s Bridge Cup this year. Luckily, many of my friends have learnt how to play bridge so I can spend a lunchtime playing with them. I am now also trying to teach my seven year old brother so that we can always have a 4 at home even when one of my parents is out.
After being ‘spotted’ at the Surrey School’s Bridge Cup in 2018, I joined the U16 squad. I now play with Kim Hudson and we first played for England in the North Sea Trophy, which due to existing annual holiday plans I ended up playing after a 10 hour flight and 2 hour boat ride at a computer on a tiny island in the Indian Ocean with terrible internet connection.
We have also played in the World Youth Online Championships, where we managed to make it to the quarter-finals. This summer we will be heading out to Norway to represent England in the European Youth Teams Championships, where we hope to qualify for the World Championships next year.
Outside of bridge, my hobbies include reading (Victor Mollo being one of my favourite authors naturally), board games, music and tennis – although generally I play as little ‘official’ sport as I can get away with.
